So it turns out today and tomorrow are public holidays in Spain. So my well organised plan of breakfast at our favorite bakery, then wondering the shops in our area were flushed down the loo. Unfortunately I had to resort to Starbucks today as it was the first and only open coffee place between here and the main street at 10:15. Turns out even our supermarket is closed :( so I headed the 4kms back into town to see if anything was available. I found one about 2hrs after setting out and hood thing too otherwise it was maccas for lunch! I grabbed a few bits and pieces to make a sandwich and had that back at the hotel (half for lunch, half for dinner).
All was not lost today however, as my travel pals know I like to be annoying and collect black and white art. My first trip to Spain was unsuccessful, and Anna had been helping me these last three days to find something. We came so close in the main square, when we found a black and white streetscape only problem was it had green trees. Today though, I found one all black and white. So I'm happy :)
The only other thing to repost is the protest. Turns out Spaniards love to protest. We saw one, or two in San Sebastian and one in Madrid the other day. Today though was crazy! Being a public holiday there must have been around 100,000+ people, maybe more stretch from the national bank of Spain, down main street, through the Porta del Sol square and on towards the main square of Madrid. It was positively crazy, I walked for a good 20 minutes against the flow of people who were walking the road and it was packed tight.
Here is the photo I managed, which show a little of the crowd at the back end of the protest. If you can zoom in you see lots of red. This is just some of the main street section, it stretched like this for almost another km.
Off to Hungary tomorrow... Not sure of internet access Martimbiancos so don't worry if you don't hear from me :)
